About

OUTLINE is an independent platform that produces and supports the transdisciplinary work of Begüm Erciyas, David Weber-Krebs and Ula Sickle. OUTLINE realises their creations, provides the framework for production, communication and financial management, and deals with the distribution and promotion of artistic output.

OUTLINE starts from the conviction that production work is inextricably linked to the artistic work and follows the model of an artist’s studio, where a group of employees are closely involved in the production and creation process and where resources and networks are shared. Within the artist-run and artist-centred support model, the strong alliance between production and artistic output results in a stable, shared framework where new institutional configurations for realising and presenting work emerge.

Begüm Erciyas got involved in various dance projects, while studying molecular biology and genetics in Turkey. She went on to study choreography. Since 2015, Begüm has been developing transdisciplinary formats, which go beyond the frontal blackbox setting. Earlier works invite the audience to be in complete solitude, to speak and to listen (Voicing Pieces (2016), Pillow Talk(2019)), while her later works take place in public space and focus on the challenges of coming together (Letters from Attica (2020), Forest Silent Gathering (2022)). The tension between isolation and togetherness is always a central topic. Begüm’s work has been presented by places such as Kunstenfestivaldesarts (BE), Wiener Festwochen (AT), Theatre Nanterre-Amandiers (FR), Festival d’Avignon (FR), Münchner Kammerspiele (DE), Radialsystem (DE), Kaaitheater (BE), Kyoto Experiment (JP). She is a house artist at DeSingel Antwerp.

David Weber-Krebs (BE/D) is an artist and a researcher based in Brussels. David explores various contexts as a basis for an experimental process questioning the agency of the spectator on the work of art. Recent performance works include The Actual Event (2020), The Death of Ivan Ilyich (2021), and The Silencing (2022). Recent visual art installations include Immersion (2014) and The Earthly Paradise (2017). David is the curator of the series of performative conferences On Enclosed Spaces and the Great Outdoors (with Jeroen Peeters) in which they address this question: how are the arts (its questions, forms, research and discourses) challenged by climate change? He is the initiator and editor of the book And then the Doors Opened Again (Onomatopee, 2020) in which, in the heat of the first Covid lockdown, 75 authors imagine their first theatre visit after the lockdown. David is affiliated with KASK & Conservatory / School of Arts as a doctoral artistic researcher.

Ula Sickle is a choreographer and performer based in Brussels. From a background in contemporary dance, she works across disciplines, drawing from the visual arts and contemporary music. While her work takes many forms, she focuses on a choreographic approach to movement and a work on perception and reception, specific to the live arts. Her recent works include Relay (2018), The Sadness (2020), Echoic Choir (2021) with vocalist Stine Janvin and Holding Present (2023) with the Ictus music ensemble. Relay (unplugged) is the first performance to be included in the Flemish Community Art Collection. Ula has been presented at Kunstenfestivaldesart (BE), Wiels (BE), Kanal / Centre Pompidou Brussels (BE), Centre Pompidou Paris (FR), MACBA (ES), Serralves Museum (PT), Tanzhaus nrw (DE), Wiener Festwochen (AT), Donaufestival (AT) and Rewire (NL). She is currently a PhD researcher at KU Leuven and Luca School of Arts in Brussels.
